Rapare 29 o Paenga-whawha

Today we started our Arts rotation. Every Thursday, the Karaka Syndicate students will be taking classes in Te Reo maori, Spanish and New Zealand Sign Language. Room 11 enjoyed signing the alphabet in New Zealand Sign language, saying hello and finger spelling our names.
We all ran 2 times around the school, training for the x-country next Friday. Most of us are getting faster!
Our buddy class came to visit. We read our reading books to each other. Watch our short video!
For topic we drew maps of our school and labeled areas that are fun, nice, quiet, etc.

Today we hosted our school assembly. Many of us were nervous about having to speak in front of the whole school. We introduced the new students to Greytown School. We saw a great dance act from 2 students. Unfortunately, there were a lot of technical difficulties with the microphone and sound system. At Greytown School we have a Caring Kiwi. Caring Kiwi is a soft toy awarded to a student who displays caring in the playground. They get to look after the kiwi for 2 weeks. This week a student from Room 11 won the kiwi.

It was a great day for doing fitness and stretches out on the field. We made sound poppers with our buddy class and learned about how our ears work. Our buddy class are 5 year olds in Room 1. We read our holiday recounts to our buddies. We played a new maths game - It really had to make us think!

Today we discussed ANZAC day and we read The Donkey Man. Miss showed us some stretches when warming up before a run in PE. We used our recount checklist to assess our recount writing so far. We are learning to add doubles to help us add more than two digits. We used see-saw dialogue to talk about what we know about ANZAC day this Sunday.

Today we started the daily photographer and we learned how to load the photos of us learning, onto the computer. We have included one in today's blog entry. We did stretches before we went for a run for PE. We are training for Cross country on Friday the 14th of May. We had to run as many times around the North field in 5 minutes. We enjoyed reading and writing times where we learned about pronouns. A pronoun is used instead of a noun and you can't use a pronoun at the start of a story, you have to use the noun before you use a pronoun.

Today was fun. It was a great first day of term 2. We met and caught up with our friends again. We started our topic "Me and my environment." We will be collecting "pools of knowledge" to create a "Vision Map" to create a sustainable environment. We are going to be training for cross country, so remember your running shoes.
