Raapa 16 Whiringa-a-rangi

In writing we are finishing our procedure writing. We have been writing instructions for making our clay tea pots. Today we took photos of our tea pots and imported them into our writing.

Today Constable Chopper came into our class to talk about bike safety. He told that we should wear a helmet because it is the law and that safe helmets have a special silver sticker. Special features of a helmet are the sticker, pad, and visor, because you can't wear a baseball cap under you helmet. We found out that our bike has a serial number that is at the bottom of the crank. You need to tell the police the serial number if your bike gets stolen. Cyclists have to give way to cars and bikes on their right, because that's the rule for cars too. Jennifer added up all the offences and penalites a cyclist could get if they didn't follow the law it would coast $795!!! That's A LOT of pocket money!!!

Art time

Ramare 28 Here-turi-koka

This week in Room 11 have been doing art prints with Mrs McNab from Aratoi (Art Gallery in Masterton). First of all we had to draw a composition of three kiwiana objects. Then we placed a clear piece of plastic over there art. Next, we had to get a really sharp nail and scratch over the lines of our kiwiana composition and scratch into the plastic. When they done that they went over to Room 15 to print them off.

Ratu 16 Pipiri (Tuesday, 16th of June)

Last week Georgia and Giorgia went to the boiler room to ask Mr Andrews, the school caretaker about how our school is heated in the winter time.

We talked to Mr Andrews about coal, the heating of the school and how he likes working with the boilers.
Giorgia took some photos of the boiler room and me trying to lift the the coal and I took one of her.The coal is very heavy and the cheapest way of heating the school.
Greytown school buys Pea coal because its the cheapest.
We asked Mr Andrews what is it like to work in the boiler room?
He said"it is cool but you have to be careful in there.

Rahina 15 o Pipiri (Monday 15th of june)

This term our focus is on Electricity. We have been making circuits and learning about the different sources of energy generation.

Over the last few week, students' have been making new discoveries around the topic of electricity, and have come up with questions about the topic.

They are now currently researching their questions, and finding out new information in their area of interest.

We have groups working on "Which electricity is the best in terms of cost and environmental impact" to "How much electricity is the school using and areas where we can save on power".

In week 10, the students will be sharing their keynote presentation on their findings to the Karaka Syndicate.

Room 11 will also be recording the progress of our inquries and other events happening in our classroom while reflecting on their new learning, daily on our class blog site.

Week 8 is Teacher-Student-Parent conferences, where the students will be able to discuss and showcase their learning from the last two terms.

An email from Adam

Hi Everyone,

We are having a great time. We stayed with Mum's friend for 3 nights and
saw lots of animals. Mums' friends house had an outside shower & toilet.
Jacob got bitten by a jumping ant and had 2 leeches on his feet. We saw
heaps of wallabies in the backyard and Mum saw 2 tawny frogmouth owls on
the ledge of the toilet!!

Today we are going to Dreamworld & White Water world. When we went to the
beach the waves were huge but the water was warm.

The weather here is beautiful and warm - going to be 29 degrees today saw
on tv that Mstn is going to be wet & cold.

Jacob & I have emailed you last week but not sure if you got them as the
internet was a bit slow at Mum's friends house.

Hope you aren't working too hard. Off to catch the bus now.

From Adam & Jacob
